The Hungarian diaspora voted massively for Viktor Orban, giving him around 88 percent of the vote so far.

According to the latest postal voting data from the parliamentary elections in Hungary held on April 12 (in which the list led by Peter Magyar achieved a convincing victory and secured a two-thirds majority in parliament), diaspora voters overwhelmingly supported the Fidesz-KDNP coalition, which won 87.70 percent of the valid votes.

Based on the results processed so far, the Fidesz-KDNP list received 264,291 votes, while the opposition movement TISZA won 10.31 percent, or 31,058 votes. Mi Hazánk followed with 1.49 percent (4,480 votes), MKKP with 0.32 percent (963) and the Democratic Coalition with 0.19 percent (570 votes).

Data on the portal “vtr.valasztas.hu” shows that a total of 346,353 ballots have been received, while 494,244 voters have registered to vote by mail. So far, 322,328 ballots have been processed, representing 93.06 percent of the total.

Diaspora voting results show strong support for the outgoing ruling coalition led by Viktor Orban, n1info writes.

According to previous assessments by journalists and analysts, this balance of power was expected, among other things due to fears that an opposition victory could lead to a reduction in rights and support for Hungarians abroad, including on citizenship issues and funding of education and the economy from the country of origin.

However, such claims have been publicly denied several times, as Peter Magyar also said in his public speeches.
